„Mare didat flores decorant“- das ist der Spruch im Stadtwappen von Yzerfontein und bedeutet: „das Meer ernährt und die Blumen schmücken“. Das Küstenstädtchen, mit seinen wenig mehr als tausend Einwohnern, liegt nur knapp eine Autostunde nördlich von der Mother City an der südafrikanischen West Coast. Der 16 Mile Beach, an dem der Ort ursprünglich als Farm gegründet wurde, ist nicht nur der längste Sandstrand Südafrikas, sondern lässt auch ein wenig das lässige Gefühl der kalifornischen West-Coast-Strände aufkommen. THE OLIVE TREE VILLA steht wie eine trutzige Burg aus Beton und Holzlamellen, direkt am Strand von Yzerfontein und wirkt in ihrer Sichtbeton Architektur eher verschlossen. Wenn man die sonst so übliche und gefällige Architektur Südafrikas gewöhnt ist, wird man dieses, mit sehr viel Konsequenz gebaute Haus, sofort als Statement wahrnehmen. Natürlich ist dieses besondere  architektonische Konzept klar: die zum Eingang hin „verschlossene“ Anmutung öffnet sich zum Strand und Meer und bietet den Gästen atemberaubende Ausblicke. Sehr schön gestaltete Innenhofbereiche mit kleinen Pools laden zum Verweilen und Entspannen ein. Die Möblierung ist „contemporary“, also modern, sehr geschmackvoll und wertvoll. Alles ist in erdigen Farbtönen gehalten, um dem Rahmen des Sichtbetons zu entsprechen, der das Ambiente unterstreicht. Natürlich sind im großzüzig gestalteten Innenhof, der sich zwischen den zum Eingang und zum Strand gelegenen Baukörpern befindet, eine Vielzahl von Olivenbäumchen gepflanzt, die so geschützt vor den rauen Westküsten-Stürmen wachsen können und die der Villa ihren Namen geben.
